The Multimedia Museum of Setzu, currently under development, is conceived as a cultural hub dedicated to the rich prehistoric heritage of Sardinia, with a particular focus on the Mediterranean Mother Goddesses and the Domus de Janas – the remarkable rock-cut chamber neolithic tombs that have, as of this year (2025), been officially inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

The project combines archaeological research with immersive technologies to create an experience that is both scientifically grounded and emotionally engaging. Through interactive projections, soundscapes, and digital reconstructions, visitors will be able to explore the symbolic universe of the Mother Goddess cult and the funerary landscapes of the Domus de Janas, uncovering their profound connections with Mediterranean prehistory.

From a museological perspective, the museum seeks to bridge traditional exhibition with innovative digital storytelling, offering new interpretative layers while safeguarding the authenticity of the archaeological record. From a curatorial standpoint, the narrative emphasizes not only the material culture of Sardinia but also its role within wider Mediterranean networks, making local heritage resonate on a global scale.

By situating these prehistoric sites within an immersive and educational framework, the Multimedia Museum of Setzu aspires to enhance public understanding, strengthen cultural identity, and foster sustainable cultural tourism, while contributing to the broader appreciation of Sardinia’s newly recognized UNESCO heritage.
